Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher started the Fisher House program in 1990, building 26   mansions on the grounds of military hospitals across the country where relatives can stay while they visit their loved ones. They pay only $7 a night. So far, more than 30,000 families have stayed at the houses.

Fisher Houses have full-time salaried managers, but depend on volunteers and voluntary support to enhance daily operations and program expansion. The Fisher House Foundation, Inc. and many individual Fisher Houses receive support through the Combined Federal Campaign.
